In war willing or otherwise there are no winners everyone, in some way, becomes a victim. Flight lieutenant James Callan a Lancaster bomber pilot wakes to find himself trapped - still dazed and in pain he is unable to move, unaware of where he is or how he got there. His caretaker a French widower, a doctor - Madame. Madame finds solace in the fact she has found a companion, a person to share the loneliness, sadness and devastation that war brings, a companion who needs her as much as she needs him. Callan discovers the truth of his predicament and the depth of Madame's feelings about the war.
