Polina is a desperate mother of six talented children. Her husband was killed in jail when her children were teens, and she had no support. She started a folk-music band with her children, but that was not sufficient. In a desperate move she tried to take her children out of the Soviet Union, and tried to hijack a plane. After serving 15 years in jail, she found her grown-up sons dispersed all over the former Soviet Union. She gathers her sons again, and now they must help their elder brother to get out of a mental institution.
